James Murdoch

Chair

James joined the world of musical theatre at the age of ten and has been involved in it ever since. While his days on stage are now well behind him, his passion for theatre has continued through many different roles from lighting and sound and backstage work, to production management and investing in shows.

In more recent years, James has had the great privilege of becoming involved with The Amici Trust, serving as Chair since 2024.

Today, his passion lies firmly in helping bring musical theatre to the next generation. Through the Trust, James is committed to supporting young performers through scholarships, developing opportunities in junior theatre, and finding new ways to introduce the magic of musical theatre to children from an early age.

James also greatly values the opportunity to partner with other organisations across Auckland and throughout New Zealand that share a passion for producing and developing musical theatre. He believes that by working together, organisations can create more opportunities for performers, creatives and communities to experience everything that musical theatre has to offer.

Most recently, this has included working to bring junior musical theatre productions into primary schools, giving children the opportunity not only to perform, but to discover the confidence, creativity, teamwork and sense of belonging that theatre can inspire.

For James, it is about ensuring that the opportunity to experience and participate in musical theatre continues to grow - inspiring the next generation and helping keep theatre alive for many years to come
